Healthtech-onderneming myTomorrows werkt aan een systeem dat hier volledig geautomatiseerd voor moet zorgen. De coronacrisis bracht de ontwikkeling in een stroomversnelling, zegt chief technology officer Robert-Jan Sips. 'Ik verwacht hierdoor een significante verbetering van onze algoritmen.
AI-expert Robert-Jan Sips, voorheen actief bij grote multinationals en momenteel CTO van het jonge en relatief kleine myTomorrows, is in zijn carrière niet alleen altijd op zoek naar werk dat technologisch vooruitstrevend is, maar dat ook echt impact heeft. “Dat is waarom ik eigenlijk altijd heb gewerkt op rare plekken, niet-bestaande afdelingen en in niet-standaardrollen. Ik ben altijd op zoek naar posities waarin je echt iets kunt toevoegen.

Toch worden de gevolgen van de klimaatverandering steeds tastbaarder. Zo zijn grote delen van Afrika en Centraal-Azië aan het uitdrogen en wordt landbouw er steeds moeilijker. Als er één branch is waar veel wet- en regelgeving is, dan is het de farmacie wel! Richard van Tilborg ontving in SMART Technology Robert Jan Sips van myTomorrows, die patiënten en artsen informeren over klinische proeven en early access bij medicatie.
Voor slechts vijfhonderd van de ongeveer tienduizend bekende ziektes zijn er geregistreerde behandelingen beschikbaar, waardoor veel patiënten geen behandelingsopties hebben. Voor deze patiënten zou daarom een medicijn in ontwikkeling een mogelijkheid kunnen zijn. Om deze medicijnen vindbaar te maken, heeft het Amsterdamse bedrijf myTomorrows een platform ontwikkeld dat wereldwijde medische data verzamelt, structureert en vertaalt naar een begrijpbare taal.

(1) VU and IBM won the prize in the category “ICT project of the year in education” with the “Watson Innovation Course”. The people involved in this course are Lora Aroyo, Anca Dumitrache, Benjamin Timmermans, Oana Inel, Lynn Austin from the VU, and Robert-Jan Sips and Zoltan Szlavik from IBM.
IBM verzamelde vorige week de tachtig beste studenten van universiteiten in Europa, het Midden-Oosten en Afrika in Amsterdam voor het Best Student Recognition Event. Het doel? Deze studenten kennis laten maken met IBM, maar ze vooral laten nadenken over een oplossing voor voedselverspilling.
